THE PLATE

Sir KwintenPure, unadulterated, and with product quality at the forefront. These are the culinary cornerstones of Chef Glenn Verhasselt. His cuisine brings a selection of the finest seasonal products in their purest form, with a contemporary twist.

From the open kitchen, the chef leads a young team, driven by respect and passion. Glenn has had a passion for cooking since he was young, which led him to choose training at the Ter Duinen Hotel School in Koksijde. He worked in different top restaurants both at home and abroad. Glenn absorbed, created, and transformed, laying the foundation for his own cuisine style.

The style of our chef Glenn Verhasselt has been, and continues to be, appreciated by culinary experts. He was named “First Chef of Belgium 2017” by Prosper Montagné and “Young Top Chef of Belgium 2020” by Gault&Millau. Most recently, Glenn was honoured as Gault&Maillau’s Chef of the Year 2025 — a testament to his continued pursuit of culinary excellence.

In 2020, Sir Kwinten earned its first Michelin star, followed by a second Michelin star in 2024. Today, the collaboration with sommelier Yanick forms the backbone of Restaurant Sir Kwinten. Together, they search for the perfect symbiosis between wine and dish.

THE GLASS

Sir KwintenYanick Dehandschutter knew from a young age that hospitality and especially wine would define his path. He completed his study at the hotel management school Spermalie, followed by a specialization year in beverage knowledge at Ter Groene Poorte. There, maître-sommelier José Lemahieu became a true mentor, and together they achieved several victories in prestigious wine competitions across Belgium and abroad.

Yanick refined his craft in some of Belgium’s most distinguished houses, such as Hof Van Cleve and Villa Lorraine. Through these experiences and his broad knowledge of the wine world, he developed a very personal style. At Sir Kwinten, purity and precision are as essential in the glass as they are on the plate. Respect for nature and for the winemaker’s passion are essential in Yanick’s wine selections. Elegance and finesse are always favoured over sheer power.

The perfect harmony between cuisine and wine is of utmost importance to both sommelier Yanick and chef Glenn. Through this sense of perfection and their continuous search for the essence of flavour, they wish to let their guests experience this journey.

Over the years, Yanick has received a series of Belgian sommelier awards. In 2019, he was named Sommelier of the Year by Gault&Millau.
